SLBC beers reviewed in Beer Advocate Magazine

The reviews as they appeared in the Beer Advocate Magazine:

Legbiter Ale
Strangford Lough Brewing Co. | Killyleagh, Northern Ireland | slbc.ie

Mashed in Ireland and fermented in the US...interesting concept.

This brew is clear and tawny with enough head retention to last the session. Butter, toffe, herbal woody hops, toasted bread and a vague fruitiness make for a very aromatic nose. Its fluffy, moderate size body comes off as a bit wet. The maltiness is dry and goes from tofee to toasted bread crust quickly. Buttery flavors and hop bitterness battle it out as the maltiness settles in as a decent base. Suggestions of apple skin, ripe pears and nuttiness are in the middle. The buttery character lingers and its maltiness holds together in the dry finish.

Good drinking for the uber beer geek who does not mind a bit of diacetyl (which is responsible for that buttery flavor).

St. Patrick's Best Ale
Strangford Lough Brewing Co. | Killyleagh, Northern Ireland | slbc.ie

Two fingers of head leave an impressive lacing on the glass as its clear copper color shines in the light. Its biscuity and buttery aroma carries with a side of earthy hops. With the crisp, dry, malty body, smoothness wears well on this beer. With dry maltiness throughout, mineral or perhaps a hint of salt comes in as soon as the hop bitterness stings the palate. Herbal, woody, earthy hop flavor does very well against the dry biscuity maltiness. Tart apple skin, nougat and tea leaves come to mind. Buttery, fruity yeast keeps to a minimum but does lend enough flavor and complexity to gibe this ale an edge over many.

Wow, what a treat! This is clearly a great pick if in need of a solid session ale. Great job on this one.
